Roddy Wedding Recap: The Cake

I believe I just realized that I have not posted any pictures of the cake. You have to forgive me though as these are not the professional photos. I will post them soon. These are photos taken from my wonderful guests.

If you can recall the mockup of the cake I had described some posts ago, we made the cake to represent us.

The top tier - Artist's palette with painting supplies. This represents us because we both love art and it is in our blood. We have painted a few pieces together during our "spare" time so I thought it would be cool to include this in the cake.

The middle tier - This is all about me :). I LOVE argyle socks or any other funky socks. I wear shoes that sometimes make my hubby cringe but this is me. I love it.

The bottom tier - This is all about him. As with art, he is a lover of music. He loves playing it all the time and he can even carry a tune (lucky me). Not only does he love hearing music but he loves instruments. It's funny how he can pick out an instrument in a song that most of us just ignore. He's got talent, I tell ya!

So without futher ado...The Roddy Cake!

EDIT: I forgot to mention that this awesome looking and O.M.G. tasting cake is from Granny Schmidt's Bakery in Emmaus, PA. If you live in the LV and are in search of a great bakery, this is one you should definitely try. Michelle (the owner) was one of the top vendors I worked with for our wedding.

Maternity Fashion

Who said a pregnant woman can't rock maternity clothes without looking twice our age?

Let's just say, I am glad to be preggie during this era and not "back-in-the-day" where moo-moos seemed to be appropriate maternity wear (YIKES!)

Since I am in my "late" 20's, I didn't want to wear maternity clothing that make me look older nor did I want to look too young as it has its own disadvantages... So I was on the hunt for clothes that will fit my ever growing body and still make me feel great about myself. Luckily, I have found 2 places where I just love their maternity clothing, Old Navy and Motherhood Maternity. I've had more luck with sizing with MM but ON has a great deal of cute clothing as well - just had a harder time finding clothes in-store for ON. If you are like me, you would need to try on clothes, especially bottoms. Also, the beauty of some of these clothes is that I will be able to wear it after the baby is born, especially the tops. I have a long torso so normally it is more difficult to find shirts that fit length wise. These are perfect.

Here are some of my favorite maternity purchases, thus far:

.:: Flats ::.
Needs no explanation. Heels just aren't working anymore.

Bronze flats from Target - $12.99

.:: Boots ::.
Worth every little penny my hubs spent :)

.:: Shirts ::.

.:: Pants / Jeans ::.

.:: Outerwear ::.

The Love Topic...Does Your SO Have To Go To Bed When You Do?

I thought this would be a great first post for my love and relationship series. Hopefully to get a discussion going. Also, any response I provide I want to make sure that it is known to be my personal opinion and should not be taken as me trying to persuade or force my opinion on anyone. These topics are not intended to make people feel bad about their life choices but to have a friendly discussion on topics that I found interesting.

Before I go into detail, let me say that this was a topic of interest that I heard from my favorite radio station out here near Philly, WDAS 105.3, and the Michael Baisden show.

QUESTION: Does your significant other have to go to bed when you do?

MY RESPONSE: I do not feel the need to make my SO come to bed with me when I head to bed. Usually we head to bed together but there have been many a times that this wasn't the case. My only request is that if he goes to bed when I do, to put the sleep timer on because it will wake me up at night. I need the tv to go to sleep just not on all night. The funny thing of it all is that if he isn't in bed when I am trying to sleep and is in the house, I can't sleep. If he is not in the house, I will conk right out, no problems at all.

He is a grown man so why would I have to make him go to bed. I think that becomes more of a controlling issue, which can then lead to many other issues. Again this is my personal opinion.

Some callers into the show say it is a trust issue and it is better for the relationship when the couple goes to bed together. Is this really the case? What are your thoughts on this?

P.S. HELP me with coming up with a better title then "The Love Topic", it is HORRIBLE!  :)

Things My Mama Never Told Me: "Joys" of Pregnancy Intro

While going through this whole pregnancy process I have found MANY interesting things about being pregnant that I had no idea about. Most of what people talk about are the good things that you will experience. Rarely the painful, weird, or disgusting elements of pregnancy are discussed as if it was taboo or something.

My goal here isn't to "scare" anyone but maybe shed some light into this world that many others will not share. I know with a lot of the research I have done, I have learned a lot of what can happen which has helped me through this without worrying about every little thing. So I want this to be of the good, the bad and the ugly.

I pretty much got this idea from an Oprah show I saw many years ago. I learned some pretty interesting things that I would have never thought about, EVER. I hope that I can provide some insight to those that are preggie or planning to be preggie. Worst case, you will learn more about my experiences :)

As always, I am looking for your feedback. If you have a personal experience that you would like me to share as a part of this series, just send me an email to theroddybride{at}gmail{dot}com.

My First Rue La La Purchase

As you can see I am far from being a fashionista but I do love me some fashionable items now and then, especially when I can justify the cost. That is why I was ecstatic to have been introduced to Rue La La. I get high quality, high fashion items for a small fraction of the price.

For instance, I got these Betsey Johnson glasses orig. $70 for the Rue La La price of $29. Good, right? Well it didn't end there. I had a $10 credit for becoming a member and inviting members but around Christmas the company gave me a $20 credit, so guess what? The glasses were FREE + shipping an handling. Are you serious? I scored an awesome pair from less than $10.

So whatcha think (minus the label and plastic wrappings of course)?

Since you have to be a member to enjoy such awesome deals, you can only join through a member or request membership.

What I'm Reading...Dear John

In addition to providing my own book reviews I thought I should probably also briefly discuss my book choice before reading it.

The book I am now reading is Dear John by Nicholas Sparks. For those of you not familiar with the author's name, he is the same author for the well known book, The Notebook. Almost all of his books that I have read had me shed a tear. They are beautiful books that capture not only my attention but also my emotions.

The reason I chose this book was because sometime this year the book will come out as a movie and I prefer reading the books before seeing the movies. I actually like comparing the two medias to see how far off they really are from each other. I know it is an interesting way at looking at it and can be distracting for others if they tried it this way but I love it. It also helped that the hubs bought this book for me as one of my birthday gifts. :)

So as soon as I am finished, I will provide my review.

Something New

In figuring out what I want to write about this year I have come up with a few topics of interest that I am planning to blog about... As always I am looking for your feedback.
  • Love Topic (Help! Looking for a catchy name) - A weekly topic to discuss relationships in all its forms in hoping to start a discussion with you.
  • Things Your Mama Never Told You - The beautiful (and not so beautiful) things about being preggie that no one really talks about.
  • The Roddy Baby update
  • Wedding Recap - still have lots to show
  • Book Reviews - I LOVE to read, so I thought it would be great to discuss books that I am reading.
  • Movie Reviews - the hubs and I also love to watch movies either streaming from Netflix or catching a flick at the nearest theatre.
...and many more.

I hope that I have peaked your interest with some of these topics. If there is something you would like me to discuss please feel free to email me at any time and I will be happy to write something up on it.

I hope you are having a fabulous 2010. Remember that 2010 will be a great year if you make it a great year!!
